To Be Myself

To Be Myself

“Make the most of yourself, for that is all there is of you.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

I often hear people become frustrated and say ”I just want to be myself”.  It’s a good thing to want to be yourself, but the statement is not much help if you don’t know who you are, what makes you happy and where your own passions lie. Often the frustration comes, not from other people not allowing you to be yourself, but from your own inner world and your beliefs.

How is it possible to be yourself if you don’t even know what that means? If you don’t know, and trust me…you are not alone, take the time to invest in yourself and find the answers. Often it’s not anyone or anything in the outside world that is keeping you from being yourself as much as it is your own inner world. No one “out there” is keeping you from being who your are, other people just become an excuse when we are afraid of fully expressing ourselves.

I experienced this first hand many years ago when my own health was affected by my “wanting to be myself”, although at first I did not realize this was the real cause of my illness. Often the stifled desire to be ourselves, whether from a lack of understanding of who we are and what we want or our fear of expressing it, takes on the form of physical illness or emotional distress. When I finally figured out the true cause of my illness and took responsibility for being myself, I became well.

For me, one of the joys of Life Coaching is to bring greater fulfillment to other people’s lives by guiding them in answering the important, life altering questions that allow them to find out what it really means to “be themself” and how expressing it is not only beneficial to them but also the rest of the world.

So true, and a great message for young people who too many times try to be someone else to “fit in” I always remember my Dad saying to me “Be your own person” I’m sure he used more words than that, but that is what I always remembered. Unfortunately, most people wait so long before they finally allow themselves to just be who they really want to be.

Great message once again Tonya, love it,

    Linda,

Thank you for your comment. This is a message I have always shared with my own daughter and the girls that I Coach. Life is so much richer when we learn this early on.
